Pudgy Penguins (PENGU) is a fungible crypto token connected to the Pudgy Penguins brand and community. It is separate from the collection’s individually unique NFTs: owning PENGU does not mean owning a Pudgy Penguin NFT, company shares, or voting rights in corporate governance.

PENGU Is Not a Pudgy Penguins NFT
The Pudgy Penguins collection consists of unique digital collectibles; the official brand site describes the original Ethereum collection as 8,888 NFTs. PENGU is a separate fungible token, so each token is interchangeable with another PENGU. An NFT’s ownership, artwork, and any rights attached to that NFT are not transferred by holding PENGU, and holding the token does not make someone a shareholder in the company behind the brand.
Networks and Token Standards
PENGU does not have its own blockchain or consensus system. A 2025 MiCA-format disclosure prepared for the token lists deployments on Solana and EVM-compatible networks, including Abstract, HyperEVM, BNB Smart Chain, and Ethereum. It identifies SPL as the Solana standard and ERC-20 for the listed EVM deployments. A token sent on one network is not automatically the same contract as a version on another; check the chain and contract address shown by a trusted issuer or exchange before transferring. Network transaction fees are paid under the rules of the chain being used, not by PENGU as a native gas token.
What PENGU Is Used For
The project’s PENGU site presents the token as a way for people to participate in the Pudgy Penguins community. The 2025 disclosure describes community participation and limited payment uses with some businesses and partners; it also says these functions can change. That is different from the older page’s claims that PENGU governs company IP decisions or pays for Abstract gas. The disclosure says holding PENGU provides no corporate voting power, equity, dividends, or contractual claim against a company.
The same disclosure says PENGU does not meet MiCA’s legal definition of a utility token because access to issuer-provided goods or services is not its sole purpose. That is a specific classification under the EU regulation, rather than a claim that the token has no possible community or payment use.
Tokenomics and Supply
The disclosure gives PENGU a fixed maximum supply of 88,888,888,888 tokens and says the full amount was minted at the token generation event. Its approximate launch allocations were 25.9% to the Pudgy community, 24.12% to other communities, 17.8% to current and future team members, 12.35% to liquidity, 11.48% to the company, 4% to public goods, 4% to proliferation, and 0.35% to FTT holders. The document also describes team and company allocations that may unlock over time. CoinGecko currently lists about 63 billion PENGU as circulating, below the maximum supply. Circulating-supply figures are provider-reported market data and can change as unlocks occur.
Risks and Limits
PENGU’s market value can move independently of the brand’s retail, media, or NFT activity. The token disclosure identifies price volatility, liquidity, concentration, unlock, and brand-reputation risks. Different network deployments also add address, wallet-compatibility, and bridge risks. Community or merchant uses may change, and none guarantees token demand or a particular market price.
