PNUT (PNUT)

What Is PNUT?

PNUT is a Solana token named after Peanut, a real squirrel whose seizure and death became a widely discussed news and social-media story in 2024. The token is a separate crypto asset: owning PNUT does not represent ownership of the animal, a claim on its caretaker, a donation, or a share in an associated organization. Because many tokens use similar names and tickers, verify the network and mint address before interacting with one.

How the Token Works

PNUT is a fungible token on Solana. The Solscan page for the mint shows the token name, mint address, and first mint date of October 31, 2024. It is not the Solana network’s native coin, and it does not run a separate blockchain. A wallet or exchange listing that displays the ticker alone is not enough to establish that it is the same asset.

The name refers to Peanut’s story, but a token narrative and its trading market are not the same thing as an official relationship with the animal’s caretaker or a public-benefit fund. The reviewed sources do not establish any such rights or relationship.

PNUT Tokenomics

CoinGecko lists a maximum supply of 1 billion PNUT and approximately 999.84 million in circulation. These figures indicate that nearly all of the listed maximum supply is already circulating, but they do not explain who currently holds those tokens. The public sources checked for this update did not provide a reliable, complete vesting or allocation schedule, so older claims that the token had no team allocation or was a “fair launch” should not be repeated as established facts.

PNUT is described as a meme and memorial-themed token. The sources reviewed do not document a claim on Peanut’s story, a share of project revenue, a governance vote over Solana, or a protocol reward. Market demand therefore depends heavily on the token’s identity, community attention, exchange access, liquidity, and changing speculation; none is guaranteed by the story that inspired its name.

Risks and Common Confusion

Memecoin prices can move sharply and liquidity can change quickly. A ticker search can surface unrelated or impersonating tokens, so compare the full mint address, chain, and source page rather than relying on a logo or name. Solana wallet signatures and token swaps also carry ordinary blockchain risks, including mistaken approvals, phishing, and irreversible transfers. The story behind PNUT does not make the token an endorsement by Peanut’s caretaker or an investment linked to the animal.

Social Media Sentiment

An early r/pnut discussion titled “How to buy PNUT?” shows users asking where the token was available and how to swap for it, with replies mentioning wallets and trading platforms as well as purchase difficulties. That is a small November 2024 snapshot from the token’s early attention, not a current or representative survey of holders. It points to retail curiosity and access confusion, not a reliable positive or negative market consensus.
