1000SATS

1000SATS is the denomination used on some exchanges for the BRC-20 SATS token. Binance described it as a 1,000-to-1 scale: a deposit of 1,100 SATS is shown as 1.1 1000SATS. This is separate from a Bitcoin satoshi, the smallest accounting unit of BTC; 1000SATS is not Bitcoin and does not represent a claim on BTC.

What the name refers to

Three similar labels refer to different things. A Bitcoin satoshi is a unit of BTC, with 100,000,000 satoshis in one bitcoin. SATS is a separate token created under the experimental BRC-20 convention on Bitcoin. 1000SATS is the larger denomination used to quote or represent groups of 1,000 SATS units on some trading platforms. The shared name is a reference, not a technical or financial link to bitcoin balances.

For example, 1.1 1000SATS at the Binance denomination represents 1,100 SATS token units in that platform’s display. It does not mean 1.1 bitcoin, 1,100 actual bitcoin satoshis, or bitcoin held in reserve. The unit in a wallet, exchange screen, or market-data source should therefore be checked before comparing quantities.

How BRC-20 works

BRC-20 uses JSON-formatted inscriptions associated with individual satoshis through the Ordinals system. It does not create an ERC-20-style smart contract on Bitcoin. Instead, software called indexers reads inscription data and applies the BRC-20 rules to determine token balances and valid operations. Those balances are not enforced as a native token ledger by Bitcoin consensus, so users depend on compatible indexers, wallets, and marketplaces interpreting the records consistently.

Transactions still use Bitcoin block space and require BTC fees. BRC-20 tokens are experimental, and their market value, liquidity, wallet support, and indexing conventions can change. An exchange listing or a token inscription does not by itself establish a continuing use case or guarantee that a market will remain available.

Tokenomics and denomination

CoinGecko tracks the market item as “1000SATS (Ordinals)” and reports a total and maximum supply of 2.1 trillion 1000SATS, while circulating supply and market capitalization are unavailable because a circulating figure is not reported. Binance’s 1,000-to-1 denomination explains why figures stated in SATS units can be much larger than the 1000SATS figure shown on an exchange.

The number 2.1 trillion applies to the 1000SATS scale shown in the market listing. It should not be read as a count of bitcoin satoshis or as evidence that token holders own bitcoin. Bitcoin satoshis are native BTC units; SATS/1000SATS are separately interpreted BRC-20 token units. Supply figures describe the token’s stated issuance limits, not demand, liquidity, or value.
