Rune Christensen

Rune Christensen is a co-founder of MakerDAO and a central architect of its Endgame plan, a multi-year effort to reorganize governance and products. The ecosystem later adopted the Sky brand while retaining documented migration paths between legacy and newer tokens.

MakerDAO and Endgame

Christensen helped build Maker, whose protocol issues DAI against collateral and whose governance is conducted by token holders. Endgame proposed changes to governance, branding, and ecosystem structure, including subDAOs and a coordinated product strategy. These proposals aimed to improve participation and resilience but also raised questions about the influence retained by founders and large delegates.

From Maker to Sky

In 2024, the ecosystem introduced the Sky brand, USDS stablecoin, and SKY governance token. Official documentation describes DAI-to-USDS and MKR-to-SKY conversion routes. A conversion route does not make two assets identical or mean that every holder must migrate; users should consult current protocol documentation and governance decisions before acting.

Kritik dan Konteks

Community debate has focused on Endgame’s complexity, whether a founder-led roadmap could concentrate influence, and whether the new branding made Maker, Sky, DAI, USDS, MKR, and SKY harder to distinguish. Supporters saw a route to growth and clearer products; critics questioned governance and stablecoin-control trade-offs. Stated decentralization goals do not prove control is decentralized in practice.

Social Media Sentiment

An October 2024 r/MakerDAO thread about whether to return to the MakerDAO name showed confusion about how Sky, USDS, DAI, and governance were related, alongside critical comments about the transition. The post had about 30 votes and a follow-up about 17; this is a small sample from the launch period. Open the direct Reddit discussion.
