XDC is the native coin of XDC Network, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 built around public transactions and optional permissioned subnets. It pays network gas and supports staking and consensus; the network is marketed for trade-finance and real-world-asset applications, but those aims do not guarantee adoption or token value.

How XDC Network Works
XDC Mainnet uses XinFin Delegated Proof of Stake (XDPoS) 2.0. XDC holders stake tokens to vote for masternode candidates; the top 108 candidates become active validators under the published network design. The project documentation lists a 10 million XDC minimum stake for a mainnet masternode. Validators propose and confirm blocks and receive rewards. The project lists an approximately two-second block interval, though actual user experience can vary with network conditions.
The public mainnet is EVM compatible and supports Solidity contracts and familiar Ethereum development tools. XDC is used for transaction fees, smart-contract gas, peer-to-peer settlement, and staking. Separate XDC subnets can use permissioned access and private data rules; this does not make ordinary public-mainnet transactions private.
Tokenomics and Supply
The 2025 XDC MiCA white paper reports approximately 37.5 billion XDC pre-mined at genesis and says there is no fixed maximum supply. It describes a continuing supply model: masternode rewards can add tokens, while part of transaction fees is burned. So “37.5 billion” refers to the genesis allocation, not a hard cap.
That paper describes the initial allocation as 40% founders and team, 27% ecosystem development, 6% contingency, and 27% pre-placement. It reports a 3% annual unlock for the team allocation and a 2.5% annual release cap for ecosystem development; it says contingency vesting was unspecified and pre-placement tokens were in circulation. These are the paper’s disclosed launch allocations and schedules, not a live map of current ownership.
For a dated market-data comparison, CoinGecko showed about 19.947 billion circulating XDC, 31.966 billion outstanding, and 38.066 billion total supply on 2026-10-22. These tracker categories use their own methodology and can change. The project paper says supply is uncapped, so CoinGecko’s current total-supply figure should not be read as a protocol maximum.
Use Cases and Limits
XDC Network positions itself for trade finance, cross-border settlement, tokenization, and enterprise applications. Its EVM compatibility can make it easier to adapt Solidity tools and contracts. These are use cases the network is designed to support; a partnership announcement or a tokenized asset on a chain alone does not establish broad, sustained demand for XDC.
Readers should weigh the trade-offs as well as the stated benefits. A 108-validator active set and a large masternode stake can support predictable coordination, while also concentrating block production among a limited group. Uncapped supply means rewards and burns matter to long-term supply. Smart-contract, bridge, validator, liquidity, and market risks still apply.
Common Misconceptions
“Hybrid” does not mean every XDC transaction is private: the public mainnet is a public ledger, while privacy controls can apply to separate permissioned subnets. Also, references to integration with trade systems or ISO 20022 messaging should not be treated as proof that XDC is ISO-certified, endorsed by banks, or already used at scale.
Social Media Sentiment
A June 5, 2025 discussion in the r/XinFin thread “What is up with XDC recently?” shows a mixed, price-focused sample. Some commenters worried that competing RWA or Corda developments weakened XDC’s investment narrative; others remained optimistic about future adoption or described accumulating XDC. The thread is one community discussion, contains investment opinions, and is too old and small to represent current or overall sentiment.
