SyncSwap is the leading DEX and AMM on zkSync Era, offering multiple pool types (Classic, Stable, Aqua/CLMM) with a single-token LP model and fee-sharing for liquidity providers — built natively for zkSync’s ZK rollup environment with deep integration of zkSync’s account abstraction features for improved UX.
Overview
SyncSwap launched in 2023 as zkSync Era’s earliest and largest DEX by TVL and trading volume. As a zkSync-native protocol, SyncSwap takes advantage of zkSync Era features — particularly account abstraction (native ERC-4337 equivalent via zkSync’s AA model) — to offer features like gasless transactions paid in the swapped token rather than ETH. SyncSwap’s multi-pool architecture provides different pool types optimized for different asset pair characteristics, positioning it as the Curve+Uniswap equivalent for the zkSync ecosystem.
Pool Types
The protocol supports several pool types.
Classic Pool (Constant Product)
- Standard
x * y = kAMM - Optimal for volatile asset pairs (ETH/USDC, ZK/USDC)
- Dynamic fees: fee rate adjusts with volatility (higher fees in volatile markets, lower in stable periods)
- LPs earn full fee income minus protocol fee
Stable Pool (StableSwap)
- Curve-style amplified AMM optimized for pegged assets
- Low slippage for USDC/USDT, WETH/wstETH, and similar pairs
- Configurable amplification parameter (A factor) per pool
Aqua Pool (Concentrated Liquidity)
SyncSwap’s concentrated liquidity product:
- Uniswap V3-style price ranges for LP positions
- Higher capital efficiency than Classic pools for LPs with active range management
- Automated ranges option for passive LPs — similar to Astroport’s PCL but on EVM
Single-Token LP
SyncSwap allows single-token LP deposits:
- Users can add only USDC to a USDC/ETH Classic pool without needing to split 50/50
- Protocol internally handles the token split via an on-deposit swap (at current pool price)
- Simplifies LP entry for users who hold only one side of a pair
zkSync Account Abstraction Integration
SyncSwap implements zkSync Era’s native account abstraction:
- Paymaster support — third parties can pay gas fees on behalf of users
- Token gas payment — users can pay swap gas fees in the token being swapped (no ETH needed)
- Session keys — pre-approved transaction batching without repeated wallet popups
- These features are enabled specifically by zkSync Era’s native AA, not ERC-4337 workarounds
SYNC Token
SYNC is SyncSwap’s governance and fee-sharing token:
- Distributed via liquidity mining to SyncSwap LPs and traders
- Vote escrow mechanism (veSYNC) for governance and fee boost
- veSYNC holders receive a share of swap fee revenue
- Gauge voting directs SYNC emissions to specific pools (similar to Curve/Velodrome model)
Fee Structure
SyncSwap’s dynamic fee model:
- Classic pools: base fee 0.1%, scales up in high-volatility periods
- Stable pools: 0.01–0.04% (very low for pegged assets)
- Aqua pools: configurable per pool
- Protocol fee: small portion of swap fee goes to SyncSwap treasury/veSYNC holders
zkSync Era Ecosystem Position
SyncSwap’s position in the zkSync ecosystem:
- Largest DEX by TVL on zkSync Era since mainnet launch (March 2023)
- Primary liquidity venue for ZK token trading (zkSync’s native governance token)
- Integrated as a routing source in cross-chain aggregators (LI.FI, 1inch) for zkSync swaps
