Storj (STORJ)

Storj (STORJ) is an ERC-20 crypto token associated with the Storj decentralized cloud-storage project. Storj’s current service documentation says customer payments and node-operator payouts use USDC, so STORJ’s token history should not be presented as the project’s present payment method.

CoinGecko price, market-cap, 24-hour change, circulating-supply and all-time-high values checked on 2026-10-21. The tracker may refresh price fields dynamically. Storj’s current documentation says its own customer payments and node-operator payouts use USDC; STORJ’s historical role should not be confused with current Storj Labs payment flows.

How It Works

Storj storage uses software clients, called Uplinks, and independently operated storage nodes coordinated through Satellites. Client-side encryption and erasure coding prepare data before it is distributed across nodes; a Satellite helps manage accounts, metadata and node selection. This is a distributed storage service with blockchain-based token components, not a claim that every file is written to a blockchain. Availability and performance still depend on the service design, node network and applicable Satellite terms.

Tokenomics

STORJ is an Ethereum ERC-20 token. CoinGecko’s market profile showed about 425 million circulating and total STORJ, with no maximum supply listed, in the snapshot checked on 2026-10-21; its narrative description has also reported a different rounded figure, so the tracker fields should be treated as a dated provider snapshot rather than an independently audited supply statement. The project’s current Storj-operated customer payments and node payouts are denominated in USDC. Token holders should not infer a current Storj Labs payment, revenue-share or storage-credit right from holding STORJ.

Use Cases

STORJ remains a publicly traded token, but Storj’s current documentation does not describe it as the unit paid by Storj Labs customers or received in its current node-payout flow. Third-party Satellites may set their own arrangements. Anyone evaluating the token should distinguish market trading from the current mechanics of Storj’s storage service and check the terms for the specific provider involved.

History

Storj’s early token model connected STORJ with storage-service payments and node compensation. The operating model has since changed: Storj’s documentation describes USDC for payments and payouts, while the storage architecture continues to use Uplinks, Satellites and storage nodes. This is why older articles that describe STORJ as the routine payment currency can be out of date even when they correctly describe the project’s earlier design.

Common Misconceptions

STORJ is not the stored data, a claim on a customer’s files, or a guarantee of storage revenue. A decentralized storage network is not the same as putting file contents on-chain. Current Storj Labs documentation says USDC is used for its customer payments and node payouts; older token utility descriptions need a date and context. CoinGecko’s supply fields are a snapshot, not a protocol-enforced maximum-supply guarantee.

Social Media Sentiment

In a September 2026 Storj forum discussion about moving customer deposits and node-operator payouts to USDC, participants asked what the change meant for STORJ holders and raised requests for clarification. This is a small, self-selected operator and community discussion, not a poll of all users or evidence of a market-wide view. direct discussion.
