Step Finance

Step Finance (STEP) was a Solana portfolio dashboard and DeFi transaction-aggregation service that brought wallet balances, liquidity positions, staking and other protocol activity into one interface. It ceased operations in February 2026 after a treasury-wallet security incident. The STEP token remains a separate Solana asset with a small market, but the former platform no longer provides its dashboard or services. Read about Solana and decentralized finance (DeFi).

How Step Finance Worked

Before its closure, Step Finance aggregated information from Solana applications so a user could see wallet balances, liquidity-pool positions, yield-farming activity and other on-chain holdings together. The service also offered transaction tools, including swaps and ways to interact with supported protocols. That made it a portfolio and transaction interface; it did not mean Step Finance itself was the exchange or lending market behind every listed position.

STEP was the project’s token. Its historical design included staking through xSTEP and mechanisms intended to direct some platform revenue toward tokenholders. The exact features and fee flows changed over the project’s life, so early token documents should be read as a dated plan rather than proof that every mechanism was active at shutdown.

Security Incident and Closure

On January 31, 2026, Step Finance said some treasury and fee wallets had been compromised. The Block reported that on-chain data showed about 261,854 SOL moved from the affected wallets, worth roughly $29 million at prices at the time; the team had not yet identified the cause in that initial report. A later company update attributed the incident to compromised devices used by members of its executive team and reported a total loss near $40 million. Those figures describe different reporting stages and valuation estimates, not a single settled on-chain amount.

On February 24, 2026, Step Finance announced that it would wind down operations after financing and acquisition efforts failed. Its closure announcement also described a planned buyback based on a pre-incident token snapshot. That announcement documents the plan at the time; it does not establish the program’s later completion or the present availability of claims. The shutdown covered Step Finance and related businesses including SolanaFloor and Remora Markets.

Tokenomics

Step Finance’s April 2021 tokenomics post described an initial maximum supply of 1 billion STEP, a two-year emission period with weekly emissions declining by 4%, and an initial allocation plan of 55% for community and ecosystem activity, 20% for the team, 12.219% for the treasury, 11.780% for presale investors and 1% for airdrops. It also proposed directing 80% of service fees to STEP stakers and 20% to the treasury. The post explicitly said these mechanics could change, and it predates the platform’s later development and closure.

CoinGecko’s snapshot linked above currently reports approximately 329.99 million STEP as both circulating and total supply and does not provide a maximum-supply figure. This market-data listing is not a current issuer statement. Because Step Finance has ceased operations and no current issuer supply schedule is available in the cited material, the 2021 allocation and emission plan should not be treated as a description of today’s active rewards, governance or fee income.

What STEP Represents Now

STEP is still tracked as a Solana token by market-data services, but that does not mean the Step Finance dashboard or its former services remain available. CoinGecko shows a very small market capitalization and low trading activity in the snapshot above; a listed quote can differ from the price or amount available for a real trade, especially in a thin market. The former xSTEP revenue-sharing description is historical context, not a current yield promise. Anyone researching the token should distinguish the remaining on-chain asset from the discontinued platform and treat claims about recovery or migration cautiously.
