Shiba Inu

Shiba Inu (SHIB) is an Ethereum-based ERC-20 token launched in August 2020 by a pseudonymous creator going by “Ryoshi” — marketed as “the Dogecoin killer” with an intentionally massive supply of 1 quadrillion tokens (1,000,000,000,000,000 SHIB) designed so that even a small dollar investment results in millions of tokens, creating the psychological impression of owning a large quantity. Half of the total SHIB supply was sent to Vitalik Buterin’s wallet without his knowledge as a publicity stunt — Buterin subsequently burned 90% of his SHIB holdings (worth ~$6.7 billion at the time) and donated the rest to COVID relief in India, one of the most dramatic token events in crypto history. SHIB became a cultural phenomenon when its price surged 49,000,000% from its launch price within 13 months of launch, briefly reaching a market cap of $40 billion (October 2021). The project has since expanded beyond the memecoin token into a broader ecosystem: ShibaSwap (DEX), Shiboshis (NFT collection), Shibarium (Ethereum L2 for lower fees), and SHIB: The Metaverse (virtual land). The SHIB community — calling themselves the Shib Army — is one of the most vocal and organized communities in crypto, with active coordinated campaigns to increase exchange listings, merchant adoption, and petition efforts.
