Kwenta

Kwenta was a decentralized trading interface built around Synthetix derivatives markets. It is best understood today as part of Synthetix’s product history: Synthetix acquired the Kwenta project and its trading frontend was rebranded as Synthetix Exchange. Current Synthetix materials describe a Mainnet perps product, so older Kwenta pages, incentives, markets, and chain support should not be assumed to describe a live independent Kwenta service.

What Kwenta did

Kwenta gave traders a web interface for accessing synthetic-asset and perpetual-futures products powered by Synthetix. The protocol supplied smart contracts and liquidity mechanisms; the interface helped users connect a wallet, choose a market, and submit trades. The product’s exact execution model depended on the underlying Synthetix version and chain, so a description of the old Optimism or Base product does not automatically apply to the current Synthetix Exchange.

A frontend is not the same thing as the underlying protocol. A trading app can change names or ownership while its earlier contracts and token remain onchain. Conversely, the existence of old contracts does not mean the old application is still maintained or that its markets remain usable.

Acquisition, rebrand, and KWENTA

Synthetix’s acquisition proposal set out a conversion of one KWENTA token for 17 SNX, subject to a three-month lock followed by nine months of linear vesting. Synthetix later reported that Kwenta had been acquired and that the frontend was relaunched under the Synthetix Exchange name. Those terms describe the historical conversion arrangement; they should not be treated as a current offer or as proof that every holder completed a conversion.

KWENTA therefore has a legacy-token context rather than the former role as the independent app’s primary governance and reward asset. Before interacting with an old KWENTA contract, migration page, or purported reward site, verify the current status through Synthetix’s official channels. A token balance remaining onchain does not itself establish that a related service or reward program is active.

How to read current product information

Current Synthetix documentation lists perpetual futures quoted and settled in USDT on Ethereum Mainnet and provides separate current documentation for markets and fees. The current product has different components and trust assumptions from the earlier Kwenta interface. In particular, the Synthetix roadmap describes a limit-order-book design, which should not be summarized using older pool-based Synthetix mechanics.

Perpetual trading involves leverage, funding payments, liquidation, market liquidity, and smart-contract or operational risk. A historical interface or its former incentives do not guarantee current availability, performance, returns, or support. Use present-tense claims only when they are confirmed by current documentation.

Social Media Sentiment

A November 2024 Synthetix community thread about the acquisition included questions from former users about the SNX conversion and the project’s direction. The thread is a small, dated reaction to a specific governance and product transition; it does not show current KWENTA-holder views or prove how many tokens were converted.
