Jupiter is a trading-product and developer ecosystem on Solana, best known for DEX aggregation that routes token swaps through available liquidity sources. Jupiter’s market-aggregation tools compare routes so a user can prepare a swap through one interface. JUP is a separate governance token associated with the ecosystem; it is not the same thing as a swap, a liquidity position, or the Jupiter Perpetuals LP token.

How Jupiter swaps work
Jupiter’s current Solana Swap API documents two paths. Its Meta-Aggregator can compare Metis, JupiterZ request-for-quote market makers, Dflow, and OKX routes; its Router uses Metis on-chain routing and returns instructions for custom transactions. The best route can depend on the token pair, trade size, liquidity, slippage settings, and the transaction path. Aggregation can simplify route selection, but it does not remove smart-contract, token, or execution risk.
Fees also depend on the path and product. Jupiter’s documentation says the Meta-Aggregator can include a Jupiter platform fee, while its Router path has no Jupiter swap fee; an integrator may add its own fee. Network transaction costs and price impact still matter. Review the quote, fee details, minimum received, and token permissions before signing.
Products and JUP tokenomics
The Jupiter product suite extends beyond swaps. Its support hub lists products such as Perps and JLP, Lend, Offerbook, Jupiter Mobile, Terminal, Prediction Market, and Portfolio. Features and availability can change; product branding does not mean each service has the same contracts, collateral, or risk model. For example, Jupiter Perpetuals and the JLP pool have their own mechanics.
JUP is used in Jupiter community governance. An approved 2024 supply-reduction proposal cut the originally planned 10 billion JUP supply by 30%, and Jupiter’s February 2025 community audit records the resulting 3 billion-token burn in January 2025. That historical action is different from later proposals about emissions or distributions: a proposal should not be treated as implemented until its outcome and execution are confirmed. Token allocation, governance, and market price can change, so the dynamic market data above is not a forecast.
Risks
A routed quote is not a promise of a final execution price. Liquidity can move, a token can impose trading restrictions, and network congestion or slippage controls can cause a transaction to fail or return less than expected. JUP holders also face token-price volatility and governance risk. Keep the aggregator, individual Jupiter products, JLP, and JUP token distinct when evaluating how a position works.
Social Media Sentiment
In a February 2026 Jupiter Research forum thread about a proposed pause to emissions, participants debated more predictable token supply against concerns about postponing planned community distributions. It is a specific governance discussion, not a survey or a measure of all JUP holders’ views.
