Aavegotchi (GHST)

Aavegotchi is a community-built crypto gaming ecosystem centered on collectible ghost NFTs and the GHST token. Its current home is Base. GHST is used inside the ecosystem and in AavegotchiDAO governance; the project is independent from Aave, despite its name and early DeFi links.

How It Works

Aavegotchis are on-chain characters that owners can collect, equip, and use in games such as the Gotchiverse. Wearables, parcels, and other assets add collectible and gameplay dimensions. The official marketplace and applications now use Base as the canonical network after the July 2025 migration.

Earlier Polygon-era Aavegotchi designs used Aave interest-bearing aTokens as NFT collateral. Those mechanics explain the project’s original “DeFi pet” concept, but should not be described as an automatic current yield on every Aavegotchi. Polygon contracts are now legacy or view-only, and current product behavior should be checked in the live app.

Tokenomics

GHST began with a DAI bonding curve, which allowed minting and redemption against a reserve. Aavegotchi’s official token documentation says the bonding curve was turned off in 2023 and the supply became fixed at about 52.75 million GHST, with burns able to reduce the amount over time. The old claim that GHST is still continuously minted by a live bonding curve is outdated.

GHST is used as ecosystem currency for items and experiences, and token ownership is used in AavegotchiDAO governance. These uses do not make GHST an Aave token or a claim on Aave deposits. Any staking or reward program depends on the current product rules; rewards are not guaranteed by holding GHST.

Use Cases

  • Buying and trading Aavegotchi collectibles and ecosystem items.
  • Participating in supported AavegotchiDAO governance processes.
  • Using GHST in game and marketplace features that currently accept it.

History

  • 2020–2021: GHST and the Aavegotchi project launched around the original bonding-curve and Polygon-era design.
  • 2023: The GHST bonding curve was switched off.
  • 2025: Aavegotchi announced Base as its canonical home; Polygon deployments became legacy.

Common Misconceptions

“Aavegotchi is an official Aave product.” Aavegotchi’s FAQ says it is not an official Aave project; it received an Aave ecosystem grant.

“Every Aavegotchi continuously earns Aave interest today.” That describes older collateral mechanics, not a universal current feature. Treat the old Polygon material as historical unless the live Base app documents a specific feature.

Social Media Sentiment

In a small April 2025 Reddit migration discussion, a holder asked whether GHST in cold storage required action. The thread points to migration and wallet-support questions, not a broad positive or negative consensus; it predates the current review and reflects only a limited sample.
