Frax Ether

Frax Ether is Frax’s liquid ETH-staking system, centered on frxETH and sfrxETH. The distinction matters: frxETH is designed to track ETH but does not itself accrue staking yield, while sfrxETH is a vault share that reflects validator rewards through a changing exchange rate. Neither the token design nor a displayed rate guarantees a market price, redemption time, or future return.

frxETH and sfrxETH

ETH sent through the Frax ETH minter can be represented by frxETH. Frax’s documentation describes frxETH as loosely pegged to ETH; a target peg is not the same as a guaranteed market price or immediate redemption. Depositing frxETH into the ERC-4626 sfrxETH vault gives the depositor vault shares. As staking rewards accrue to the vault, each share can represent a larger amount of frxETH. frxETH alone does not receive those vault rewards.

Redemption and trade-offs

Frax documents a redemption queue for converting frxETH to ETH. The wait incorporates Ethereum’s validator entry and exit queues plus a governance-set delay, so it can vary over time. A secondary-market swap may offer a faster exit but can trade at a discount or incur slippage. Risks include smart-contract or governance failure, validator slashing, changes in staking income, liquidity constraints, and a deviation of frxETH’s market price from ETH. Historical or community-reported APY figures should not be treated as current or guaranteed.

Social Media Sentiment

A March 2026 r/eth discussion included one user praising sfrxETH’s reported APY and Frax’s permissionless-validator design; replies asked what the current rate was. These are individual claims in a small, self-selected thread, not an audited yield comparison or security finding. The linked thread also contains an unrelated promotional reply, so it should not be read as a representative community poll. direct public discussion.
