Purpose and work
The Foundation says it supports Dogecoin development and advocacy, protects the Dogecoin marks against abuse and fraud, and publishes a trailmap for project work. These activities support the ecosystem but are distinct from the protocol rules enforced by network nodes.
History and independence
Members of the Dogecoin team established the Foundation in 2014; it was re-established in 2021 with renewed support for developers and the broader ecosystem. In its announcement, the Foundation said it would not take control of Dogecoin Core, which remains an open-source project maintained by contributors.
