Alchemix

Alchemix V3 is the current version described in the project’s documentation; V2 is now documented as legacy. V3 combines yield vaults, self-repaying loans, and fixed-term alAsset redemptions through the Transmuter.

How Alchemix V3 Works

Deposits of ETH or USDC can receive Mix-Yield Tokens (MYT), which represent a share in a portfolio of yield strategies selected and rebalanced by the Alchemix DAO. Yield accrues in the value of MYT, but returns depend on those underlying strategies and can vary.

Borrowers can use MYT-backed collateral to borrow alETH or alUSD. Scheduled redemptions use yield to pay down the loan balance over time. The project’s current overview lists borrowing up to 90% of collateral value; that is a protocol limit, not a prudent target or assurance that the loan is safe.

Liquidation and the Transmuter

Alchemix describes its V3 loans as having no price-based liquidations: ordinary market-price swings alone do not trigger liquidation. The exception matters: a loss in MYT strategy value can create system debt relative to collateral and trigger liquidation. The system therefore still has liquidation risk, and MYT strategy, smart-contract, oracle, liquidity, and chain risks remain.

The V3 Transmuter offers fixed-term redemption of alETH or alUSD for underlying assets. A quoted rate and maturity do not remove alAsset peg risk, bad-debt risk, or limits on early exit. The terms and available assets vary by chain, so consult current documentation for the product in question.

V2 and V3 Are Different

Older Alchemix material often describes V2, where collateral and yield sources were structured differently. The present documentation covers V3 and identifies V2 as legacy. When reviewing a tutorial, contract, or risk description, check which version and chain it applies to before carrying over claims such as a maximum loan-to-value ratio or liquidation behavior.

Social Media Sentiment

A September 2026 r/ethereum discussion focused on risk: participants asked how MYT’s underlying strategies, redemption terms, and cross-chain isolation affect users. One experienced commenter and a participant identifying themselves as Alchemix staff emphasized that underlying strategies are a key risk layer. This is one discussion, not a measure of broader community sentiment.
