Loopring

Loopring was an Ethereum project that built a zkRollup layer-2 network, exchange, and wallet. The project announced in June 2026 that it had shut down and was no longer operational; its DEX trading service and relayer stopped. LRC still exists as an Ethereum ERC-20 token, but that does not mean Loopring’s former network services are running.

What closed

The Block reported that Loopring announced the shutdown of its decentralized exchange in June 2026, with the relayer going offline and a plan to return remaining user assets directly. For anyone with assets on the former layer-2 service, follow only current notices from Loopring and verify any recovery instructions independently. Do not treat old tutorials that describe deposits, swaps, staking, or withdrawals as current instructions.

How the former network worked

Before the shutdown, Loopring used zero-knowledge rollup technology to batch transactions and submit validity proofs to Ethereum. Its exchange supported order-book trading and automated-market-maker pools. These were historical services: the fact that their design is still described in older documentation does not show that the live product is available now.

Tokenomics

LRC is the ERC-20 token associated with Loopring. Its maximum supply is finite; current circulating and total-supply figures are a dated data-provider snapshot, not a live supply feed.

Token detail What the sources say
Supply Finite supply; CoinGecko reported about 1.374B circulating and total, and about 1.375B maximum, on 2026-10-26.
Former utility LRC was used in the Loopring ecosystem’s historical fee and incentive design. The protocol’s 2021 tokenomics paper described fee distributions among liquidity providers, insurers, and the DAO. Those are historical mechanisms; no current Loopring service or reward is implied.
Current status LRC remains an Ethereum token with a publicly verifiable contract. Token availability on third-party markets does not restore the discontinued Loopring exchange or network services.

History

  • 2017: Loopring held its initial token sale and began developing an Ethereum exchange protocol.
  • December 2019: Loopring’s relayer serviced WeDEX in a mainnet beta. Its January 2020 update distinguished that integration from the Loopring-branded DEX, which was still being prepared.
  • 2021: The project published a revised LRC tokenomics model describing protocol-fee allocations.
  • June 2026: Loopring announced that it had shut down; DEX trading and the relayer ceased operating.
