Greg Solano

Greg Solano is a co-founder of Yuga Labs, the company behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and other digital-collectible projects. After returning as Yuga’s chief executive in 2024, he moved to chairman of the board in April 2026 as Michael Figge became CEO. Solano said he would remain involved in creative direction, writing, and new ideas.

Yuga Labs and BAYC

Yuga Labs says the idea for the company began with four friends deciding to make an NFT; that project became BAYC, launched in April 2021. The collection helped make Yuga a prominent company in the NFT sector, and the studio later expanded into other collections including CryptoPunks and the Otherside project. This company history gives context for Solano’s role, but it does not mean every product or decision was his individual work.

Leadership roles

Solano used the pseudonym Gargamel in Yuga’s early public period. Blockworks reported in February 2024 that he had resumed the CEO role after Daniel Alegre’s departure. The Block reported in April 2026 that Solano was moving from CEO to chairman and that Michael Figge would become chief executive. Solano described his continuing focus as creative direction, writing, and developing ideas.

Creative work and company direction

Solano’s public role has combined company leadership with writing and creative direction around Yuga’s NFT and gaming projects. A board chair can influence company oversight and strategy, while day-to-day management belongs to the CEO and operating team. The April 2026 leadership change matters when older pages still call Solano Yuga’s current CEO.

Yuga projects can include collection-specific tokens, access, intellectual-property terms, and services. Rights and features vary by project and can change. NFT holders should read the current terms for the particular collection instead of assuming that all Yuga assets provide the same commercial rights, access, or future utility.
