Beam

Beam is a privacy-focused Proof of Work blockchain and cryptocurrency project associated with the native coin BEAM. Its project documentation describes the network as using Mimblewimble and Lelantus-MW techniques to make transaction privacy the default. This entry is about Beam from beam.mw. It is a different project from the gaming-focused Beam Network on onbeam.com, even though both projects use the name Beam and the ticker BEAM.

How Beam Privacy Works

Beam is based on a Mimblewimble implementation and adds Lelantus-MW features. The project’s design aims to limit the transaction details that appear in the public blockchain record. Privacy technology can make ordinary on-chain tracing harder, but it does not guarantee that a person cannot be identified. Wallet security, how a transaction is created or shared, network activity, exchange records, and user mistakes can all affect privacy.

Beam’s own site describes the chain as using Proof of Work and says its wallet and network support confidential assets, a decentralized exchange, and smart-contract applications. Specific features and their availability can change, so a roadmap item or product description should not be treated as proof that every application is live or usable on every network endpoint.

BEAM Coin and the Similar-Ticker Problem

BEAM is the coin associated with the privacy-focused Beam blockchain. CoinGecko lists it under the ID beam and shows the Ethereum token contract 0xe5acbb03d73267c03349c76ead672ee4d941f499. Beam Network is a separate gaming project that uses the same BEAM ticker; its official documentation lists a different Ethereum contract, 0x62D0A8458eD7719FDAF978fe5929C6D342B0bFcE. The active ChangeNOW currency list labels that gaming-network asset BEAMX on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. The ticker alone does not identify an asset, so verify its network and contract before interacting. ChangeNOW’s listed BEAMX contract does not match the privacy-chain BEAM asset, so it is not a verified swap route for this coin.

Risks and Privacy Limits

Privacy features do not remove smart-contract, wallet, software, mining, market-liquidity, or operational risks. Bugs in cryptography or implementation could weaken privacy or network security. A confidential transaction also does not hide information a user reveals through a wallet provider, exchange, device, or communications channel. Treat claims such as “private” or “anonymous” as descriptions of a design goal, not an assurance that every user or transaction is untraceable.

Social Media Sentiment

On 17 October 2026, CoinGecko’s community sentiment indicator for BEAM was evenly split between bullish and bearish. The page text reviewed did not show a voter count, so this platform-specific snapshot should not be read as a representative measure of all BEAM holders.
