Definition: Canton Network is a public, permissioned blockchain network designed to connect applications that need controlled data access and coordinated settlement. Applications can share transactions through Canton’s synchronization infrastructure while each participant sees only the data permitted for that application and transaction. CC is the network’s utility token, with issuance and transaction-fee mechanics defined by the network’s published token model.

Privacy and interoperability model
Canton is “public” in the sense that the network and its participating applications are publicly described and can connect through shared infrastructure; it is permissioned because applications and participants operate under access rules. This is not the same as a public chain where every user can read every transaction. Canton applications use Daml and synchronization domains to coordinate only the data and parties needed for a transaction.
Application-level privacy can help institutions transact without exposing all business data to every network participant. It does not mean data is invisible to every operator, regulator, counterparty, or application administrator. Access depends on the application’s design, participant permissions, and applicable legal arrangements.
CC utility and supply economics
CC is used within the network’s token model to account for activity and support network incentives. Published materials describe a predefined supply curve in which rewards are associated with network utility and transaction activity, while traffic fees are burned. The model is therefore better described through its issuance and burn rules than as a simple fixed-cap coin. CoinGecko lists no fixed maximum supply in the snapshot above; the live protocol rules and current supply should be checked before making a precise projection.
Token prices and market capitalization are volatile. A growing network or consortium does not guarantee that CC appreciates, and institutional participation does not remove smart-contract, governance, adoption, or market risks.
Applications and limitations
Canton targets use cases such as securities, funds, payments, and other real-world assets where confidentiality and synchronized settlement matter. A shared network can reduce coordination friction, but interoperability still depends on applications, legal agreements, identity controls, and operational integrations. The design has trade-offs: permissioning can support compliance and privacy while limiting open, permissionless participation.
Social Media Sentiment
A limited July 2026 Ledger community thread asked whether Canton was supported in Ledger hardware and Ledger Live. That is a narrow wallet-compatibility question, not a representative view of Canton’s technology or market: Reddit discussion asking about Canton wallet support.
