What Is Celer Network?
Celer Network is a blockchain interoperability protocol specializing in cross-chain bridging (cBridge), generalized cross-chain messaging (Inter-chain Messaging Framework / IM), and historically Layer 2 state channel solutions. It enables applications and users to move assets and trigger smart contract interactions across 40+ blockchain networks.
cBridge: Cross-Chain Asset Transfers
cBridge provides fast, low-cost cross-chain token transfers using two models:
- Liquidity Pool Model: LPs lock liquidity on each supported chain. When users bridge assets, funds are taken from the destination pool and the source pool is rebalanced later. This enables instant transfers for popular routes
- Canonical Token Model (Pegged Bridge): For assets without deep LP liquidity, cBridge mints canonical wrapped versions on destination chains that can be burned to redeem originals on source chains
Inter-Chain Messaging (IM)
Beyond asset transfers, Celer IM allows arbitrary smart contract calls and data to be passed across chains. A DeFi app on Ethereum can trigger an action on Arbitrum. This enables cross-chain governance, yield aggregation, and unified multi-chain applications.
Security model: A network of “State Guardian Network” (SGN) validators monitors and attests cross-chain messages. SGN validators stake CELR. Optimistic challenge periods add additional security for high-value transfers.
CELR Token
- SGN staking: CELR is staked by SGN validators to participate in message attestation. Validators with more stake have higher reward weight
- Slashing: Malicious validators risk losing staked CELR
- Governance: CELR holders vote on protocol upgrades and fee parameters
- Fee payment: Bridge transaction fees partially denominated in CELR
Ecosystem
Celer supports Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, BSC, Polygon, Avalanche, and 30+ other chains, making it one of the most multi-chain bridge infrastructures available.
