Xai is the first gaming-focused Arbitrum Orbit L3 blockchain — positioned as the infrastructure layer that makes blockchain gaming actually playable for mainstream gamers by abstracting away wallets, gas fees, and blockchain complexity while preserving true asset ownership. Built directly by Offchain Labs (the team behind Arbitrum) in partnership with Ex Populus (a gaming studio), Xai inherits Arbitrum One’s security and Ethereum’s settlement, while processing game-specific transactions at extremely high speed and nearly zero cost. XAI’s key innovation for gaming is the “Sentry Node” system — a decentralized network of node operators who validate Xai challenges and earn XAI rewards, creating a distributed infrastructure layer funded by gaming ecosystem activity. XAI token is used for node licensing, in-game economies, and governance of the Xai network.
How It Works
Arbitrum L3 architecture:
Xai is an “Orbit” chain — a Layer 3 that settles to Arbitrum One (L2) which in turn settles to Ethereum (L1). This creates a three-layer security stack: Ethereum provides ultimate settlement, Arbitrum One provides fraud proof security, and Xai provides game-speed execution (<1s finality, near-zero fees).
Sentry Nodes:
Xai’s unique infrastructure is the Sentry Node network — operators purchase a “Sentry Key” NFT license and run a validation node. Sentry Nodes monitor all Xai transaction batches submitted to Arbitrum and challenge any incorrect state transitions (fraud proofs). Node operators earn esXAI (escrowed XAI) rewards for participating in this validation.
Gasless gaming:
Game developers can “sponsor” gas for their players — so gamers never see gas fees. Transactions happen seamlessly in-game; the publisher covers costs or builds them into game economics.
esXAI:
An escrowed, non-transferable reward token earned by Sentry Node operators. esXAI must be “redeemed” by converting to XAI over time, preventing sudden sell pressure from validator rewards.

Use Cases
- Sentry Key licensing — XAI used to purchase node licenses; node operators earn rewards
- In-game economies — XAI/esXAI serve as primary currencies in partnered Xai games
- Governance — XAI holders vote on Xai network parameters and treasury allocation
- Gas — XAI pays transaction fees on the Xai chain

Common Misconceptions
“Xai is another NFT game with a token.” Xai is infrastructure — a blockchain specifically designed for gaming that any game studio can deploy to. It’s not a single game but a platform for an ecosystem of games.
“Arbitrum L3 means weaker security.” Xai inherits Arbitrum One’s Optimistic rollup fraud proof security, which inherits Ethereum finality. Three layers of settlement means Xai state transitions have Ethereum-grade economic security, just optimized for speed.
