Morphex is a multi-chain perpetuals and spot trading DEX forking GMX’s GLP liquidity model — deploying on Fantom and BNB Chain to capture users on networks where GMX itself did not operate, using the MPX governance token and an MLP liquidity pool token to mirror GMX’s fee-sharing architecture.
Overview
As GMX’s GLP-based perpetuals model proved its product-market fit on Arbitrum and Avalanche in 2021–2022, multiple teams forked its open-source contracts to deploy on other networks. Morphex targeted Fantom and BNB Chain — both large DeFi ecosystems with active trading activity but without a native GMX deployment. By adapting GMX’s codebase, Morphex could immediately offer a battle-tested perpetuals mechanism rather than building a novel architecture, competing primarily on chain presence, tokenomics, and community engagement rather than protocol innovation.
GLP Model Fork Overview
Morphex’s core mechanism replicates GMX’s design:
MLP (Morphex Liquidity Pool):
- Multi-asset liquidity pool accepting BTC, ETH, BNB (on BNB Chain), FTM (on Fantom), and stablecoins
- LP token representing a proportional share of pool assets minus aggregate trader unrealized PnL
- MLP holders earn 70% of all trading fees as yield distributed in WFTM or WBNB (native wrapped tokens)
- LP holders act as counterparties to traders — profitable traders reduce MLP value; losing traders increase it
MPX Token:
- Governance and revenue-sharing token; staked MPX earns 30% of trading fee revenue
- esMPX (escrowed MPX) distributed as vesting rewards to LPs and traders to reduce immediate sell pressure
- Multiplier Points: loyalty rewards that boost yield for long-term MPX stakers (mirroring GMX’s Multiplier Points system)
