Sam Kazemian

Sam Kazemian is a co-founder of Frax Finance, a decentralized-finance project whose original flagship product was the FRAX stablecoin. A Frax Finance project update in June 2026 identifies Kazemian as a co-founder. The project’s products and token names have since changed, so descriptions written for the original FRAX should not be assumed to describe today’s FRAX or frxUSD.

Frax’s original design

Frax’s own historical documentation says Frax V1 launched on December 20, 2020, with a “fractional-algorithmic” stability mechanism. In that design, the protocol adjusted the collateral ratio in response to FRAX’s market price. The documentation’s example describes a redemption at an 85% collateral ratio as returning $0.85 in USDC and minting $0.15 worth of FXS for the remainder. This was different from a purely algorithmic stablecoin with no collateral buffer. Frax marks that V1 mint-and-redeem model as retired in favor of later mechanisms, so it is a historical description rather than a guide to the current system.

How FRAX, FXS, and frxUSD differ today

Current Frax documentation uses FRAX (previously FXS) for the native gas and commodity asset of Fraxtal. It says users have been able to upgrade FXS to FRAX at a 1:1 ratio by bridging to Fraxtal since April 28, 2025. The same documentation describes FRAX as a commodity asset rather than a governance token. By contrast, frxUSD is documented separately as a U.S.-dollar-pegged stablecoin that Frax describes as fiat-redeemable and fully collateralized by permitted cash-equivalent reserves held with custodians under delegated management. These are the issuer’s descriptions; they are not an independent audit of reserves or redemption availability. Because tickers and deployments can change, users should check the network and contract address before identifying an asset.

What can be attributed to Kazemian

Public project materials support describing Kazemian as a Frax co-founder. They do not establish that he personally authored or controlled every protocol decision, token migration, or governance outcome. For that reason, this entry distinguishes Frax’s documented protocol history from claims about Kazemian’s individual role and avoids treating project announcements as proof of performance or investment quality.

Social Media Sentiment

A small January 2024 r/ethtrader discussion about Fraxtal’s planned launch showed mixed reactions: some commenters welcomed the prospect of lower fees, while others questioned whether the market needed another Layer 2. The thread is old, low-volume, and about launch expectations, not a representative measure of current opinion about Kazemian or Frax.
