Dogecoin Core is the open-source full-node and wallet software maintained by Dogecoin contributors. A full node independently checks blocks and transactions against Dogecoin’s consensus rules and connects to peers on the network. Dogecoin Core is software for using and validating Dogecoin; it is not a separate coin or blockchain.

What a full node does
Dogecoin Core downloads and checks the blockchain, validates transactions and blocks, and relays valid peer-to-peer messages. Running a node lets an operator verify the chain using local software rather than relying only on an explorer or another node’s summary.
The wallet and the network
The Dogecoin Core project includes wallet functionality, but the software is only one way to manage DOGE. The coin is DOGE and the network is the Dogecoin blockchain. Alternative wallets may connect to Dogecoin without being Dogecoin Core.
Open-source development
Dogecoin Core is developed in public by contributors. The Dogecoin project describes a small group of core maintainers supported by contributors; no single company or foundation should be presented as owning or controlling the decentralized network.
